FAQ

Does Tickshield work against all bugs?

Tickshield is third-party tested for fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, ants, mites, chiggers, roaches, wasps, and scorpions. However, our products have been popular for a larger range of pests for over 20 years.

Is it safe to use on children and pets?

It sure is! Tickshield is non-toxic, family-safe, and pet-friendly when used as directed. Tickshield is only recommended for dogs over 20 lbs. For smaller dogs and cats, go with Cedarcide Original instead.

How often should I apply?

Apply before outdoor activities that could expose you or your pets to biting bugs. Reapply every 5–7 hours or after getting wet. See “Instructions” on the label for more details.

Can it be used outdoors as well as indoors?

While you can apply Tickshield to people and pets outdoors, as well as spray bugs directly on hard surfaces, Tickshield is not plant safe, so exercise caution when using it around grass or other greenery. For lawn protection, go with Outdoor Bug Control instead.

Is it eco-friendly and non-toxic?

Yes! Tickshield is non-toxic, family-safe, and safe for our planet, when used as directed.

What’s the difference between the cedarwood and lemongrass options?

Both are equally effective at controlling unwanted bugs, so it all depends on your scent preference. Cedarwood is classic and earthy (think cedar closet or chest) and lemongrass is brighter and more citrus-like.

Will it leave stains or residue on clothing or other surfaces?

No, Tickshield is designed to dry quickly and not stain. You can use it on clothing, fabrics, furniture, carpeting, and more. For delicate items, test on a small area first.

How long do Cedarcide products last?

As long as you store them in a cool, dry place out of sunlight and freezing temps, they should last approx. 2 years before slowly losing effectiveness. They never go bad or become harmful, they simply lose potency after 2 years.

Works great!

"Since using for hikes in the woods, we haven’t found one tick! I prefer this over Wondercide because it doesn’t leave my dog’s fur sticky. The smell is strong and makes my dog sneeze while I’m spraying him but as long as it keeps the ticks away, I’m sold!"

The best

"I run my 3 yr old Dobie in the woods (Capital Forest WA. )4 times a week. He picks up a tick now and then and I have only had two ever. This winter was so mild the ticks are extremely numerous. I came home with 9 on me and 4 were already embedded. My wife was not pleased. BUT my dog had been sprayed with tick shield the day before and only had one tick that was crawling on his collar. I now spray us both when we get out of the truck and between the two of us ZERO ticks. Thank you so much!"

EXCELLENT FOR HORSES

"This is the first all natural product that has worked on my horses! I have tried everything over the years and tried making my own. Granted, it’s only early spring and the mosquitoes / Green heads ( I’m located in Amesbury MA) aren’t bad yet, but what I’ve seen with flies and ticks so far is quite amazing! After spraying this, I’ll literally see the flies, fly away ! They ll get so close and won’t even land. And no ticks since using this product! Sold! I’m buying again and will be purchasing outdoor treatments as well. Just buy it!!!!!"

Tick relief in San Diego

"With the month of using Tickshield, we haven't brought home another tick! The Tickshield smells delightful, and the 4oz spray applies in a nice even mist that our trailblazing dog doesn't seem to mind. Tickshield was added to our tick fighting regimen after finding three ticks move from the dog to me during the month of March - not even summer yet! I decided I needed to do even more than I was already doing! We still do our after-walk brushing, rinsing, and lint rollering to remain ultra diligent! But in one month our tick take home has been reduced 100%! I am happy with the results!"

Glad I found Cedarcide

"I live in Texas where the humidity is unbearable, which is ideal for fleas multiplying - and they sure do! I've tried everything on my dog - chewables- sprays- powders, but nothing worked very well and there are some quite bad chemicals in that stuff. I found Cedarcide and decided to try it. Pleased with the results and it's all natural - no nasty harsh chemicals. I spray her down once a day and her bedding as well. Please don't stop making this stuff! And if you do go out of business, PLEASE let me be the first to know so I can buy out your remaining stock! Seriously!"

It works!!

"We live in the middle of the forest and are out on trails 3-4 days a week. I have a year old mini Aussie with long fur and she gets in water every time she sees it. So far tick season is getting underway and I have found several dead ones on her and the only lives ones I have seen are lethargic. Pleasantly surprised and pleased with the product so far!!"

Q&A

Hi. Does it matter how much your dog weighs?
For Tickshield, we suggest only dogs over 20 lbs use it, given the added aroma of the extra essential oil. For all other pups, I suggest Cedarcide Original, Shelley: https://cedarcide.com/products/cedarcide-original-biting-insect-spray?variant=42159479914716
Can you use this on a dog that is also taking a pill form of tick protection (Simperica trio)?
Morning, Kristen! We have many customers who use our products in conjunction with traditional flea and tick products, but if you're concerned for any reason, I would suggest checking in with your Vet just in case :) We're also available at 800-842-1464 if you need anything else or have more questions, Kristen!
Hello- Is it effective to use Tickshield in the flea brush for applying on your dog or is it recommended to apply by hand per the instructional video? Also, in regards to dogs, is there residual effect after swimming and water activities ? Thanks!
Hi, Justin, It's equally effective if you apply with the brush, with the sprayer, or by hand :) While some protection will likely last after swimming, I would re-apply for best results. We're also available at 800-842-1464 if you need anything else or have more questions!
Can Tickshield be sprayed on a lawn?
Hi, Rosemary! It cannot—that product is not plant-safe. For ticks in your lawn, I suggest this: https://cedarcide.com/products/pco-choice?variant=42159479357660 We're also available at 800-842-1464 if you need anything else or have more questions :)
Is this safe to use in addition to Frontline topical tick prevention for dogs?
Hi there, Jackie! Many of our customers use both alongside each other without issue and have for over 25 years :) However, if you're concerned, I would suggest checking in with your vet, as when introducing any new product to your pet's lifestyle. We're also available at 800-842-1464 if you need anything else or have more questions!
