FAQ

Does Outdoor Bug Control work against all bugs?

Outdoor Bug Control is third-party tested for fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, ants, mites, chiggers, Japanese beetles, roaches, wasps, and scorpions. However, our products have been popular for a larger range of pests for over 20 years.

How often should I apply?

For your first application each year, apply twice two weeks apart. Then just monthly after that. Repeat applications until freezing temps return.

Is it safe to use around pets and children?

Absolutely! Outdoor Bug Control is non-toxic, family-safe, and pet-friendly when used as directed. No downtime is required—people and pets can re-enter the lawn immediately after application.

Is it safe for pollinators like bees or butterflies?

Yes, Outdoor Bug Control will not deter bees or butterflies. For optimal results, follow the instructions, use as directed, and apply in the morning or evening when pollinators are less active.

Is Outdoor Bug Control the same thing as PCO Choice?

It sure is! We recently updated the name of PCO Choice to Outdoor Bug Control but it’s the same great lawn spray.

What’s the difference between the cedarwood and lemongrass options?

Both are equally effective at controlling unwanted bugs, so it all depends on your scent preference. Cedarwood is classic and earthy (think cedar closet or chest) and lemongrass is brighter and more citrus-like.

How long do Cedarcide products last?

As long as you store them in a cool, dry place out of sunlight and freezing temps, they should last approx. 2 years before slowly losing effectiveness. They never go bad or become harmful, they simply lose potency after 2 years.

Instructions

1

Insert the straw into the hose-end sprayer lid and attach the lid to the hose. Set dial to OFF.

2

Pour 4 oz. Cedarcide Outdoor Bug Control into the hose-end sprayer reservoir and add 22 oz. warm water. Attach the reservoir to the lid and shake well.

3

Turn your hose to full pressure and switch the dial to ON. Spray your lawn and other vegetation using slow, even strokes (1 reservoir treats approx. 5,000 sq. ft. before emptying).

If this is your first application, repeat again in two weeks. Then, apply monthly or more often as needed. For best results, apply in the morning or evening.

If rain is expected in the next 24-48 hours, wait to apply Outdoor Bug Control until the weather has passed and the soil is mostly dry. Re-application after heavy rain may be necessary.

Reviews

Review From East Texas

"Purchased a gallon of both the cedar and the lemongrass bug sprays. The lemon scent is pretty weak but worked fine. The cedar scent is very strong and I don't notice very many bugs after using it even with all the rain we have lately that is driving some into drier areas. Very happy with my purchase!"

Great products

"I’ve been using Outdoor Bug Control around our house, garden, and play area for ticks for many years. It does the job-we live on 6 acres of woods so I regularly spray the paths and perimeters, wood pile, and around dirt driveway where cars park. Reporting of increased ticks this year(‘26) increased yet we did not see that at our home."

A Great Natural Bug Control Solution for my yard

"Cedarcide Bug Control has worked well for keeping bugs away around my home and yard. We live in a heavily wooded area, so mosquitoes and other pests are a constant challenge. I like that it's made with natural ingredients instead of harsh chemicals. It has a fresh cedar scent, is easy to apply, and I've noticed a significant reduction in bugs with regular use. It also gives me peace of mind knowing my pet can enjoy the yard without me worrying about harsh chemical residues when the product is used as directed. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for an effective, natural bug control option."

Customer for life!

"Stumbled upon this after our dog got very sick from a tick borne illness. Noticed a huge difference in the amount of bugs in our yard after the first use, and even better results after the second use. Will continue to apply monthly but cannot say enough good things about this product!"

Kristin S. (5/5)

Excellent Product

"I bought this product because I have a lot of pine straw in my backyard. I was not able to walk around in my yard because I was getting a lot of chigger bites and my dog was being bothered by them as well. An added plus to spraying this product in my yard was that is pet friendly and helped with controlling fleas, ticks, ants, and anything else that wants to bite you or your pets."

Barbara N. (5/5)

Great product

"I used the outdoor bug control and cedar granules combination and I haven't seen a chigger on my wood deck or concrete pool deck since. I love the cedar smell and I feel good about using in areas where my 25 lbs dog likes to explore."

Q&A

My husband sprayed our yard yesterday with your product that we bought. Apparently the sprayer malfunctioned and put the spray down too heavy. Our small dog is vomiting and has diarrhea so we’re wondering if the product(because it went down too heavy)is making her sick?
Hi, Dawn! Firstly so sorry to hear about your pup, we're wishing them a speedy recovery :) Secondly, have you used any other new products inside or outside recently, Dawn? I ask because this does not sound like a reaction to our product—there's simply nothing inside that would cause this type of reaction, even at much stronger rates. For context, when you apply the lawn spray, the dilution of the essential oil active ingredient is in the single digits, whereas our products for use directly on dogs, reach upwards to 20% of the same active ingredient. In other words, even at 10x stronger dilution for Outdoor Bug Control, you would still be below the strength of products used directly on dogs' coats. However, please reach out to us at questions@cedarcide.com so we can continue to look into this for you, discuss how you applied, etc.
Will the bug free lawn kit kill bill bugs. We are looking for something non toxic to wildlife, bunnies and quail and doves but will kill and repel bill bugs
It sure will, Karen! It both kills and repels unwanted bugs. It's also non-toxic, pet and family-safe, and requires no downtime after application. It also will not harm pollinators or your home's wildlife, Karen :) We're available at 800-842-1464 or questions@cedarcide.com if you need anything else!
HI! Is this harmful to frogs or snakes? I used a commercial service for mosquito and ticks but recently encountered a snake that was suffering due to the spray. I just cannot do that anymore! Hoping this is really just for insects?
Hi there, Amy! Our products are just about the most gentle option you can use in your lawn. While I wouldn't advise spraying a reptile directly, you should not experience any issues with wildlife apart from unwanted bugs when using our products :)
How long after application should I wait before mowing the lawn?
I would just allow it to dry first, Tim :)
Can this be used in a dewalt 20v back pack sprayer?
Yes, and that makes it so much easier. Just mix 1-2oz of the concentrate per gallon of water!
