FAQ

How does Cedarshield work?

Unlike less effective wood treatments and seals, Cedarshield soaks all the way through the wood, protecting it from the inside out. This hardens and strengthens the wood against rot, decay, warping, splintering, moisture damage and more.

Can it be used on all types of wood?

Of course! Cedarshield can be used on all wood types and projects, new or old, including treated, sealed and painted wood.

How often do I need to apply?

In most instances, Cedarshield is a one-and-done lifetime treatment. As a precaution, we suggest re-checking the wood in about 7 years.

Can it be used to treat older wood that’s already damaged by water or pests?

It sure can! While Cedarshield won’t reverse pre-existing damage, it will help prevent that damage from getting worse and dramatically extend the life of the wood.

Will the product change the color or appearance of wood?

Nope—Cedarshield does not change the color or appearance of wood. However, you are free to paint or stain the wood 72 hours after your final Cedarshield application.

Is it safe to use around pets and children?

Yes, when used as directed, Cedarshield is safe to use around pets and children, and will not leach out into the environment or soil after it’s fully dried (about 72 hours).

Instructions

1

Start by removing any dirt or debris to prep the wood for application. Then, lightly wet the surface. Cedarshield applies best to damp wood.

2

Wearing gloves, use a brush, roller, submersion or a sprayer to apply. You’ll know you have a full application when Cedarshield beads up on the surface and will no longer soak into the wood. Cedarshield works best when applied in temperatures above 45°F.

3

Allow 72 hours for Cedarshield to fully dry before getting wet. Then, you’re free to paint, stain, or seal. Cedarshield is usually a one-time, lifetime treatment.

For projects thicker than 2X4 inches, apply to both sides of the wood when possible for quicker application. For larger projects, an additional application may be required after 5-7 years.

Amy H. (5/5)

Absolutely great!

"I already sent a review but will repeat all I had said previously - great product, non toxic! since we have grandkids and animals . . . plus don't feel like breathing in toxic fumes . . . since I don't use a contractor but breath in whatever fumes are emitted while applying the Cedarshield Wood Penetrant! The boards on my 2 decks reject a lot of moisture by now - but neither deck is satisfied yet. So I will just continue applying more layers of this stuff - I am sure there are cheaper versions of this but I will stick with Cedarshield until both decks will be satisfied . . ."

Q&A

Can this help prevent carpenter bees from nesting into my deck wood?
Yes, absolutely. We have a ton of customers with that exact use case with great results. Be sure to apply until you get the product beading on the surface. That shows it has been fully absorbed. This will keep you in great shape for years, possibly dozens. We tell customers to check in on the wood after 7 years to be sure. What's great is a simple power wash will revitalize the look without affecting the strengthened wood :)
Is it ok to sand items after cedar shield has been used and given at least 72 hours to fully dry?
Hi Ellen, yes absolutely. Cedarshield penetrates and fortified all of the wood, so sanding after it has been applied and cured will not cause any negative issues with the wood after sanding :)
Is this product good for wood turning projects? I'm looking to prevent splitting.
HI, Tom! That's a very common use for the product :) We're also available at 800-842-1464 if you need anything else or have more questions.
can this be used on garage studs , rough cut lumber. then once dry add insulation?
It sure can, David. Cedarshield is for all wood types and projects—old or new, soft or hard :) We're also available at 800-842-1464 or via email at questions@cedarcide.com if you need anything else!
Can you use Loba 2K Invisible as a sealer after first applying Cedashield?
Hi Mike, You can use any sealer (or stain) after applying Cedarshield and allowing it to fully cure. I did lookup that product name and they seem to have a lot of variations. Cedarshield fortifies the wood very thoroughly, making most additional sealers unnecessary. However, Cedarshield does not provide UV protection. It will allow the natural graying of wood on it's own. If you want to give the wood UV protection, an additional sealer fo UV protection would work great any any UV sealer will work just fine.
